Frank Mayor: Cinevision CEO on Forty Years Bridging Hollywood and China

Frank Mayor: Cinevision CEO on Forty Years Bridging Hollywood and China

There is a kind of career that does not make sense until you see the whole picture. Frank Mayor’s is one of them. As president and chief executive officer of Cinevision Global Inc., he oversees a holding company operating across music, television and film, an enterprise assembled over more than 40 years of working across entertainment, law, real estate and international finance. The biography is dense. The career behind it is denser still.

From Law School to the Music Business

Mayor’s path into entertainment was never going to be conventional. Holding bachelor’s degrees in economics and political science alongside a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he entered the music business carrying a skill set the industry quietly craved and rarely admitted it needed legal precision, financial literacy and enough creative tolerance to survive it. The artists he worked with form a list that holds up decades later: Guns N’ Roses, Faith No More, Cheap Trick, Heart, Vanessa Williams, Kenny G, Roy Orbison, the Ventures and Brian Wilson.

That roster reflects an ability to operate at the highest levels of the business, structure complex deals and earn the trust of talent and labels alike in an era when that trust was neither easily given nor lightly held.

The China Relationships

Mayor’s engagement with China represents one of the more distinctive threads of a career full of them. He has represented the Music Copyright Society of China and China Record Corporation outside of China, mandates that require institutional credibility, genuine cultural fluency and long-term relationship investment. You do not receive those mandates from a business card exchange.

Music entrepreneur Reavis Daniel Moore, who worked with Mayor at CRC Jianian, described the experience as “singularly unique among major music executives,” pointing to his openness to new ideas, his absence of pretense and his dealmaking focus in a sector Moore characterized as insular and jaded. Marketing adviser Terry Horsmon was equally direct. Mayor’s ability to turn a marginal resource into a valuable media asset, Horsmon noted, reflected more than 25 years of China experience and access to key players that he described as incomparable.

These are not vague commendations. They describe a very particular kind of operator.

Cinevision and the Catalog

In 2002, Mayor acquired ownership of more than 1,000 film titles now distributed worldwide through Cinevision Global. The company operates a full post-production and international distribution entity in-house, giving Cinevision a degree of operational control that most independent entertainment companies cannot easily replicate.

To date, Mayor has produced more than 20 feature films and several television series, and Cinevision holds an output deal with China Central Television, the country’s dominant state broadcaster.

Longevity Frontiers

Mayor’s next project marks a deliberate move into new territory and a natural extension of a career built on identifying where serious content and serious audiences converge. He is attached as producer on Longevity Frontiers, an international media project in the wellness and longevity sector being developed alongside creative media executive and wellness strategist Gavin Crombie. The project brings together creative production, wellness science and resort wellness integration into a single globally distributed platform ambitious in scope and designed to contribute meaningfully to the conversation around human healthspan.

For Mayor, the move makes sense on multiple levels. A producer with more than 20 feature films, a functioning post-production infrastructure through Cinevision and four decades of international content experience brings precisely the operational discipline a project of this scale requires. Longevity Frontiers is not a pivot. It is an application of everything Mayor has spent 40 years building applied to one of the most consequential subjects of the decade.
