Marcos Suspends Fare Hikes Amid Rising Fuel Costs in the Philippines: What Commuters Need to Know

Commuters should verify that operators honor the suspended rates by checking printed receipts, digital meters, and posted signage at terminals and stations. Any provider charging the unapproved higher fare can be reported to LTFRB through its official hotline. Meanwhile, transport workers seeking assistance should closely monitor DOTr and LTFRB channels for subsidy mechanics and timelines.

Note that airline fuel surcharges, approved separately by the Civil Aeronautics Board, remain in effect and could still push airfares higher in the near term. The current suspension applies exclusively to land-based public transport under LTFRB’s remit. Because the earlier LTFRB approval was provisional, new hearings may resume by mid-2026 if oil prices fail to moderate or if subsidies prove insufficient to sustain operators.

For authoritative updates, regularly check official DOTr and LTFRB websites, follow the Presidential Communications Office, and consult major news outlets for any changes to subsidy eligibility and fare policy.
