The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved an LTFRB fare adjustment on March 17, 2026, a day before the presidential directive. For traditional jeepneys, the minimum jeepney fare would have risen by 1 peso to 14 pesos for the first four kilometers, with an additional 0.20 pesos per kilometer afterwards,about 0.0036 USD per kilometer at roughly 56 pesos to 1 USD.
Similar percentage increases were cleared for buses, taxis, and TNVS rates, with LTFRB describing the changes as provisional and subject to finalization by June 2026 if fuel prices stayed elevated. Operators of modern jeepneys and bus franchises had anticipated the increase to offset higher diesel and maintenance costs tied to geopolitical instability. With the pause, many are in a holding pattern, weighing cash flow pressures against the prospect of forthcoming subsidies.
