The lush season is winding down, the crowds haven’t fully arrived, and Bali in April sits in a window that rewards travellers who plan ahead without overthinking it.
April is when Bali stops being the rainy-season version of itself and starts becoming what most people picture when they book. The rice terraces are green from months of rain. The skies are clearing. Beach days are reliable enough to plan around, and the island hasn’t yet filled up with the June and July wave that turns Seminyak traffic into a full-time occupation.
If you’re weighing whether April 2026 is the right month for your trip, the honest answer is: it probably is, depending on what kind of Bali you’re after.
What April Actually Feels Like on the Ground
Bali sits in a transition period through April. The wet season technically runs from October to March, but in practice, April still carries some of that energy. Mornings tend to be clear and warm, with temperatures sitting between 26°C and 31°C. Afternoon showers are possible, especially inland around Ubud, but they’re short and don’t usually wreck a full day.
What you get in exchange for accepting that unpredictability is a Bali that looks better than it will in the drier months ahead.
The landscape holds its colour. Waterfalls are full. The light in the late afternoon, particularly at the beach clubs along Uluwatu’s cliffsides, is worth showing up for.
Crowd levels in April are manageable. You’re not sneaking onto an empty island , Bali’s popularity doesn’t really have an off-season anymore , but you’re arriving before the mid-year peak that makes villas harder to find and popular restaurants worth booking two weeks in advance. April pricing reflects that. Accommodation rates are generally lower than June through August, and availability is wider, which matters if you’re trying to lock in somewhere specific.

Go on a Saturday if you want the full social version of the experience.
Surf conditions in April at Kuta and Seminyak are generally approachable for beginners. Uluwatu gets better swells and is better suited to more experienced surfers. If a surf lesson is on your list, April is a reasonable time to book one.
Inland, Ubud earns its reputation in April in a way it doesn’t always during hotter, drier months. The Tegallalang rice terraces look exactly as good as they do in photographs, and the walk between them is genuinely pleasant in the morning before heat builds. Where to Base Yourself

The dining around Eat Street covers most food preferences, and the beach is walkable from most accommodation. Traffic is real , don’t underestimate it , but for a first Bali trip, the convenience of Seminyak outweighs the congestion.
Canggu has absorbed a lot of the younger, longer-stay crowd in recent years and has more of a social, café-heavy atmosphere. It’s good for people who want surf mornings, good coffee, and evenings that stretch. The traffic between Canggu and Seminyak is a known problem. If your itinerary pulls you back and forth between the two, factor in the time it takes.
Ubud works well as a second base rather than an only base, unless your trip is specifically built around culture, cooking classes, yoga, and slower days. It’s about 90 minutes from the airport and further from beaches than many people expect. A split stay , three nights in Ubud, the rest in Seminyak or Canggu , often works better than trying to do both from one base.
Uluwatu is the right pick if your trip is mostly about cliffside beach clubs, Bingin Beach, and watching the Kecak fire dance at the temple at sunset. It’s less convenient for anything else, which is either a reason to choose it or to stay elsewhere.
